IEEE Xplore

IEEE Xplore has been upgraded and implemented a new Search History function. This includes enhanced search history recording capabilities and the ability to combine searches.

These features have been developed by popular demand but they need to be selected and switched on by individuals. The LIS ACES Faculty newsletter gives more detail if you are interested in using the new functions.

SHUgo 2.0

SHUgo version 2.0 is now available for staff and students on iOS (iPhone, iPod Touch). SHUgo is the University’s mobile app, and version 2.0 should be available for Android mobile devices in the next week.

The new version fixes a bug where some users could not access their Blackboard sites inside the app and has a new design and features including the new library interface.

See the http://elearningatshu.wordpress.com/2011/10/24/shugo-2-0-is-here/ blog for full details.

Do you teach distance learners?

If you teach on courses that have been validated as distance learning your students can use the library’s Distance Learner Support Service (DLSS).

As well as information in shuspace (search for "DLSS") this short YouTube screencast Using the DLSS at SHU will tell you (and them) what we can do.

There is lots of information that you can put into Blackboard modules about how students can access library facilities and use the DLSS. The D&S LIS Faculty Team can help you with this.

New holds service

If you have been notified that a book you have placed on hold is now ready, you will be able to collect it and issue it yourself instead of having to ask at the Helpdesk.

Holds can be collected from a newly designated area within Key Text at both learning centres which include self-issue machines.

This means that you can now pick up your holds anytime the learning centre is open, even overnight when the Helpdesk is not staffed. The system will only allow users who have placed the hold to issue it to themselves so there is no danger of someone else going off with your book.
